Elevate your water testing precision with Taylor Thiosulfate N/10 in the convenient 2 oz. bottle (R-0007-C). R-0007 is typically used in water testing procedures to neutralize chlorine and determine the chlorine concentration or the amount of chlorine-consuming substances in the sample. Thiosulfate solutions are often used to neutralize chlorine in water samples because thiosulfate reacts with chlorine and chloramines, forming chloride ions. The R-0007 reagent is used in the process to determine the endpoint of the titration, where the excess chlorine has been neutralized, and a color change is observed. Always refer to the specific instructions provided with the Taylor test kit for accurate and detailed information on the use of reagents.Ê

Instructions

How to use R-0007 to test Total Alkalinity

  • Fill the Taylor test tube with 5 mL of your water sample.
  • Add 10 drops of the R-0008 Alkalinity Indicator Solution to the water sample. Swirl or mix the solution gently.Ê
  • Using the R-0007-C Thiosulfate N/10 Reagent, slowly add drops to the water sample while swirling. Count the drops until you observe a color change. The color change usually goes from green to red. The red color indicates the endpoint of the titration.
  • If you reach the endpoint (red color) and the solution turns back to green after additional swirling, add one drop of R-0008 Indicator Solution at a time until the color change becomes permanent.
  • Continue the titration process by adding drops of the R-0009 Alkalinity Titration Reagent until you observe a color change from red to green. The green color indicates the endpoint of the titration.
  • Note the total number of drops of R-0007 and R-0009 needed to reach the endpoint. Each drop corresponds to a certain amount of alkalinity in the water.
  • Use the formula provided in the Taylor alkalinity test kit instructions to calculate the alkalinity of the water sample. It typically involves multiplying the number of drops by a conversion factor.
